LOS ANGELES - The UCLA Film and Television Archive in association with The Silent Society of Hollywood Heritage, Inc present a one night series devoted to the comedy of Laurel and Hardy prior to becoming a team on Thursday, October 8, 1998 at 7:30 PM. Starting around 1926 and through 106 comic films, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy made moviegoers laugh hard and often, but the two were not always a pair. Oliver Hardy, who began in films in 1914, made over 250 films without his famous partner and Stan Laurel, who started in vaudeville, made 90 films before teaming with Hardy. This program was created to highlight the pair before they teamed up. While unparalleled as a twosome, Stan and Oliver were also two individually wild and crazy guys. Highlights of the program include: Laurel's DO YOU LOVE YOUR WIFE (1919, 10 min.), directed by Hal Roach; THE EGG (1922, 20 min.) the film that made Laurel a star; A WEAK-END PARTY (1922, 10 min.); and WEST OF HOT DOG (1924, 20 min.). The program also features Hardy's THE DADDY OF THEM ALL (1914, 10 min.) A WARM RECEPTION (1916, 10 min.), directed by Oliver Hardy; THE CHIEF COOK (1917, 20 min.) and RIVALS (1925, 20 min.) one of Hardy's last works prior to teaming up with Laurel. Admission is $6 for the general public, $ 4 for students and seniors. Tickets are available one hour before showtime at the James Bridges Theater, located at the northeast corner of the UCLA campus. Parking is available for $5 in Lot 3. For further information, please call (310) 206 - FILM or visit our website at www.cinema.ucla.edu. All photos copyright CCA |
