THE 8th ANNUAL LAUREL AND HARDAY Wigan, England 2nd September, 2000.

This annual one day convention, is held in Wigan, England on the first weekend of September (2nd). It is hosted by The Bacongrabbers Tent of the Sons of the Desert (The Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society). The Bacongrabbers Tent hosts the Earsie Kneesie Nosie World Championships. Any tent represented on the day can enter as many of their members as they like. Also hosted is the Bacongrabbers Quiz Trophy, a video trivia quiz. Again, any tent in attendance can enter. Last year the Saps-at-Sea from Southend won the trophy from the (at the time) undefeated Bacongrabbers. There will be guest speakers who give illustrated talks on various aspects of Laurel and Hardy's life or work. Last year Dougie Brown the Grand Sheik of Their Purple Moment Tent in Stranraer gave a great illustrated talk on Stan's first appearance on stage at the Panopticon Music Hall in Glasgow. Rare footage from all over the World, things the Average Fan wouldn't normally see, will be available for viewing. Visitors can also enter various raffles for different charities, browse the many memorabelia stands and mingle with like minded Laurel and Hardy fans. Oh! The odd Laurel and Hardy film will be shown as well. If anyone wants to stay overnight, a deal has been negotiated with The Quality Hotel, less than a mile up the road,from the Beer Engine, Special Offer £80:00 for a double room (Twin Beds or Double Bed according to availability) for both Friday and Saturday Night, and full English Breakfast on Sat. and Sun.
