June 23, 1931, far on the backlot of Hal Roach Studios, Oliver Hardy and screen partner Stan Laurel take a break between scenes of shooting their two-reel comedy ONE GOOD TURN in order to provide a tasty treat for one of the tiniest canine pals they had ever encountered. Showing this still (“photo by Stax”) to Hal Roach in 1984, his comment was, “Well, the bone Stan’s feeding him is bigger than the pup!” He had no memory of why this still was shot.
